The First Sip

New Year’s resolutions are like the tiny bubbles in champagne – they catch reflections of the life we want, but they rise to the surface too quickly, and pop before we can absorb them. A couple of years ago I wrote about the how the remnants of my broken resolutions found their own life, and at the end of the year, I had achieved more than I originally set out to do.

Sometimes life doesn’t want to be controlled. Sometimes it devises its own vision, taking us by the hand and showing us a new way around the obstacles in our path. In a world that is constantly shifting, we often miss the clues that are left for us. The good news is that they never really go away – they just wait for the right moment to resurface. They tend to reappear in moments of adversity, offering us a small light to find our way back to a state of harmony. When RA gets the best of me, I wait it out, because I know the buoyancy of my own spirit will propel those bubbles to the surface long enough for me to take that first effervescent sip.

May your first sip of 2018 delight your palate with small victories, and may you recognize each moment as the grand achievements they are. I wish you all a Happy New Year filled with health, happiness and love. May you renew old friendships and discover new ones, be open to new experiences, spend more time with the people you love, feed your passions and be true to your own self.

“New Year’s resolutions are made to be broken. Every year I envisioned these grand sweeping dreams and every year those dreams floated away from my reach, bursting like delicate soap bubbles. Lost in the shadow of my grand promises, I somehow achieved a cluster of small goals I failed to recognize as accomplishment. As it turned out, many of my finest moments and triumphs in the last year were the surprising result of broken resolutions. I look forward to the small triumphs of another year of broken resolutions – one step at a time, one day at a time, one story at a time, one victory at a time.” Outshining Broken Resolutions by J.G. I plan to break all of my resolutions, and keep all my promises. So I am liberal with resolutions and I make scant few promises. I look forward to breaking all my resolutions this year.
